In July and August 2005 I rode from Kalgoorlie (Western Australia) across the Nullabor Plain to Port Augusta (South Australia), a journey of 2100kms. Now commencing in July 12th 2009 will ride the length of the Stuart Highway from Post Augusta (South Australia) to Darwin in the Northern Territory – 2722km.

Since 2000, a family friend, Bill Staude, who is now nearly 80 years old, has been having solo bike riding adventures around Australia. Bill has cycled all the major highways around Australia, and last year also competed in the Victorian ‘Around the Bay in A Day’ ride. Listening to his adventures, has really inspired me to do something to push myself, to keep fit, while enjoying the bush, and at the same time raise funds for a worthy cause.
While it seems a bit selfish having all this time to myself, I have great support from my family, particularly my wife Fiona who really coordinates all the logistics and preparation. Basically Fiona can do anything!
On this trip I am raising funds to purchase three interactive white boards (IWB), and all the associated technology, including projectors and other hardware for the Brunswick Special Development School which teaches children with intellectual disabilities. These white boards are an essential tool to enable children to interact, learn, communicate and progress through their daily tasks.
My goal has had a terrific kick-start with Carlinea Williamson and Josh Hills from Herma Technologies donating 3 white boards valued at approx $6000. Thank you Carlinea and Josh.
The staff at the B.S.D.S. are so excited!
Now I am keen to make sure all the associated equipment can also be purchased to make this goal a reality. Having this technology available in all classrooms will provide more learning time for the students and there will be less need for children to move from classroom to classroom to share boards.
